I am slowly settling into my new home in the Lake District.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have not as yet got to go into the mountains to the extent that I had hoped \u2013 this will come as less time is focused on the house and sorting it out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keswick is not far away and is an easy trip being just 30 minutes away by car. There, apart from the attractive market town, you have Derwentwater. Catbells is just across the lake and the likes of Skiddaw are also visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I make a point of walking down to the lake if I\u2019m in Keswick as there is always something different about the view. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My first winter here has seen some snow. There was a big fall in January, which mostly missed me here in Penrith, but the other side of the Helvellyn range around Grasmere and Ambleside was hit with 30cm to 40cm \u2013 which is a lot by modern standards for England.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snow though rarely hangs around very long away from the highest peaks. A couple of days and it was all gone here. Up in the mountains though, it hangs around for a week or two. The temperatures do not stay low enough for long enough for the snow to persist throughout the winter.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the daffodils have been out for a while, the weather is still on the cool side and spring hasn\u2019t really broken here yet.   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
